Laura E. Davis is a screenwriter, director, and fiction writer. She’s worked as a story consultant and coach for the past fifteen years, and she’s taught screenwriting and story development for the past ten. She is currently senior affiliated faculty and a senior creative thesis mentor at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
Her screenplays have been set up at Chelsea Handler’s production company and selected for the Tracking Board’s Launch Pad Pilot competition, IFP Film Week, SAG Indie Reading Series, and various labs and fellowships. Her last feature as a writer/director, Inheritance, premiered at SXSW where it was nominated for an Adam Yauch Hörnblowér Award and the SXSW Gamechanger Award.
She’s a long-time student of meditation, Buddhism, and creativity. Her interests in psychology, science, mysticism, and somatic practices including yoga, qigong, and breathwork inform her creative and coaching work.
Originally from Louisiana, she graduated from Brown University with honors and received her MFA from UT-Austin as a Michener Fellow in screenwriting and fiction writing.
